For years, I succumbed to the disgustingness that is prepackaged taco seasoning. Even my kids thought it was gross, and I always ended up throwing out a lot of the meat from Taco Night because no one wanted to eat that day-glo orange beef that tasted like chemicals.
I recently revisited Taco Night with an experiment of my own – could I make a great-tasting taco meat myself?
The results were not only easy, they were delicious – and even my kids loved it. Here’s the recipe, it takes literally 15 minutes to make from start to finish.
Please note that most of the recipes I make are geared towards my kids. If I was making this for adults, I would add fresh cilantro and a diced fresh jalapeƱo while cooking.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground meat – you can use whatever you want. I’m pretty sure you’d be able to use strips of chicken too, or tofu.
1/2 medium onion, diced
1 clove of garlic, crushed
1-2T olive oil
1T chili powder
1/2 t paprika
1/2 t cumin powder
1/4 t salt
Dashes of Frank’s Red Hot or similar
Brown the onion and garlic in the olive oil.
Add the meat, browning for a few minutes, then add spices, cooking until the meat is cooked through. Finish with Frank’s Red Hot.
That’s it! So easy!
