Work with me
BE A PENCIL, NOT AN ERASER.
That means, I want to help you add foods to your diet, not take them away. over 25 years as a dietitian has shown me time and time again that restriction and punishing diets don’t work…not for the long-term.
Food is only one part of the equation. Our attitudes towards food, eating, and our bodies are often formed in our childhood. I help clients untangle their feelings and negative core beliefs around these things, because they’re intimately linked to our food choices and our ‘why.’
This work is important for lasting, meaningful change!
My Course
Do you need evidence-based support for your nutrition in perimenopause and menopause?
I developed Don’t Sweat It because I saw a need to evidence-based, honest nutrition information for women who are going through perimenopause and menopause.
Abbys Book
I want you to be able to step away from controlling diets and toward a more balanced way of eating. Normalizing your eating habits by listening to what your body needs can bring you emotional.
Media Appearances
Abby has been incredibly successful in putting her nutrition message into everything she does. With a background in writing and degrees in both English and Nutrition.
Sometimes, even something that we feel should be simple, isn’t. Nutrition is like that!
But ‘simple’ doesn’t mean ‘easy,’ and there’s so much nutrition information out there. It’s hard to know what’s accurate, and which plan will be a fit for you and your goals, while honoring you as an individual.
Through the past two decades, I’ve distilled my nutrition and counseling philosophy to a few important points:
- Nutrition should be a game of addition, not subtraction.
- Eating behaviours are usually about a lot more than just food, and without exposing the ‘why,’ there is no lasting, meaningful change.
- An approach that’s compassionate and individualized is far superior to meal plans and ‘tough-love’ eating rules.
- It’s essential to really listen to people and to meet them where they’re at.
I have based my counselling approach on what I think is most important in a provider:
- Not just hearing, but truly listening to your concerns.
- Treating each client as a whole person, rather than using cookie-cutter methods like meal plans and food rules.
- Avoiding harmful restrictive diets and anything that will damage, not heal, your relationship with food and your body.
- Giving you manageable recommendations that take into account your history, lifestyle, financial situation, preferences, and capacity for change at that time.
- Being available for concerns and questions between sessions, and flexible with session timing.
What will our sessions look like?
All sessions are virtual and done on Zoom within Practice Better, a platform that’s private and secure.
All sessions are up to one hour in length, and are focused on your goals, lifestyle, preferences, and history. I will not give you meal plans, shopping lists, or eat this/not that lists.
Rather, I teach you how to self-manage your nutrition through behaviour change and the creation of healthy habits. Eating behaviours and belief systems figure greatly into this equation, so we’ll be looking at those, too!
I offer one package of three or five one-hour sessions. I do not offer one-by-one sessions, because I believe that clients need continuity and follow-up in order to work through concerns and establish change.
