As you all know, I work with Butterball turkey. And as you all know, I’d never represent a product that I don’t like or don’t believe in and trust me: I’ve been asked to do that many a time. So, when Butterball asked me to make a recipe with their ready-made turkey burgers, I was a bit afraid. Would they be dry? Would they fall apart, or taste like a bad substitute for beef burgers? I was going to find out.
I found the burgers easily enough and looking at the nutrition facts label, was impressed that the burgers were lean: they have almost half the calories of a normal beef burger, with 29 grams of protein, vitamin B6 and minerals like iron and zinc. Still, I wanted to taste them, because if something looks good but doesn’t taste good, then what’s the point?
Thinking of a Greek-style theme, I developed a scrumptious red pepper feta sauce for the burgers and prepared them on the BBQ. They were super-easy to cook from frozen, and they didn’t fall apart like some other turkey burgers do! Also, they looked juicy, not dry. Check! Check!
Once I had the burgers prepped, I shot the images with my husband’s help. Keep in mind that at this point, it was after 12pm and we were both staaaarving. As I shot the last photo – the one of him holding the burger – I said to him, ‘I hope I got what I need here, because I’m eating that burger!’
It was a cross-your-fingers moment because I usually don’t eat my set until I’m sure I have the shots, but the burgers looked so incredible, and we were so hungry, we literally tore into two of them before I had even reviewed the photos. Luckily, they came out perfectly. And the burgers? Incredible.
These turkey burgers are delicious. They’re thick, juicy, and satisfying. They taste delicious, with or without the feta sauce I put on them. They hold together and are substantial enough to pile high with toppings. Even my beer-drinking hockey-playing husband was surprised. ‘These are really, really great!’ he said, as we demolished two of the burgers you see in the photos.
I would 1000% buy these again, and I recommend them to you all without hesitation. They’re perfect for summer BBQs, or honestly, any time of year.
