I collaborated with PersiMon® persimmons for this video and post. As always, my opinions remain my own.
Have you ever tried persimmons? These beautiful orange globes of deliciousness are in season now!
I’ve partnered with PersiMon®, a unique variety of persimmon that’s grown near Valencia in Spain, to help spread the word about the flavour and health benefits of their fruit.
PersiMon®, which are the Rojo Brillante variety, are available from mid-October to January, and are special for a few reasons:
First of all, unlike some other persimmons, PersiMon®’s are non-astringent ready to eat right away. No waiting for the fruit to soften and lose its tannins; PersiMon® are firm and crisp, and perfectly sweet. That makes them perfect for eating out of hand, or for smoothies, cocktails, or baking.
Second, PersiMon® was granted a Denomination of Origin designation by the Spanish government. This highly coveted, quality seal is the only one existing in the world for a persimmon fruit variety and is recognized by the European Union. Their quality-control standards are incredibly strict, so you know you’re getting the very best fruit.
PersiMon® taste like a combination of peach and mango, and have 6 grams of fiber and 120 calories per fruit! They are a source of vitamins C, K and folate, and an excellent source of vitamin A. They also contain antioxidants beta carotene, lutein and lycopene.
